At school she enjoyed maths most of all and passed her 'eleven plus' only to be denied a chance of grammar school by a shortage of places. By the end of secondary school she was developing a strong interest in sport and it is therefore not surprising that when the time came to go out to work she applied to Cadburys because of the excellent sporting opportunities which they offered.
